Itasca, IL, July 28, 2011 APP Design  announced today that it has completed its new Version 5010 HIPAA-compliant Graphic User Interface (GUI). The upgraded interface is now available for users of HealtheNet, Western New York’s administrative information exchange.

The new GUI offers a more intuitive approach, with a cleaner and more streamlined look, Auto-fill, enhanced provider search capabilities, and comprehensive diagnosis description and diagnosis code lookups, require the user to spend less time on each request. Other benefits include enhanced business rule validation and comprehensive error messages allowing the user to easily correct any missing or incorrect information.

“The main benefit of this new GUI is its compliance with Version 5010 guidelines, but it also offers users more simple navigation,” remarked Robert Quinn, Partner of APP Design. “As HealtheNet continues to add registered users, pieces like this are integral to its success.”

HealtheNet runs on APP Design’s RHIOnet software, a secure, Web-based, healthcare information exchange system designed to deliver accurate and timely healthcare data to caregivers distributed across wide geographical areas. RHIOnet allows HealtheNet to provide secure access to administrative information from the health plans to assist the healthcare provider community in day-to-day business operations.

HealtheNet was created and funded through a collaborative partnership among the Western New York region’s hospitals and health plans. Today there are more than 45,000 registered users, and more than 300 million transactions have been processed since the system went live in June 2001. With HealtheNet, health care providers and office staff are able to verify the status of their patients’ insurance eligibility, benefits and claims. Users are also able to initiate a referral and inquire if one is in place. HealtheNet capabilities also allow for system integration with practice management and hospital information systems.

WNYHealtheNet Enlists APP Design for New Real-time Patient Consent Interface

posted on 12.09.10 at 8:30 am in: APP Design, News, RHIOnet - Comments Off

APP Design, a software development firm specializing in the design, development and integration of healthcare systems, announced today that it has been selected to design and develop a real-time patient consent interface for WNYHealtheNet through its RHIOnet product. RHIOnet is a secure, Web-based, healthcare information exchange system designed to deliver accurate and timely healthcare data to caregivers distributed across wide geographical areas.

WNYHealtheNet, one of the nation’s most successful RHIOs, delivers over five million healthcare transactions per month to its more than 30,000 providers. A collaboration by the Western New York region’s hospitals and health insurance plans, WNYHealtheNet provides real-time, online services including health plan eligibility and benefit verification, claim status, claim inquiry, referral submission and single sign-on. Prior to WNYHealtheNet’s inception in 2002, physicians and providers were required to contact each entity individually, in disparate ways, for all the services and manage multiple sets of user names and passwords for each entity.

“This new interface enables our authorized users to obtain access to important healthcare data both simply and securely,” remarked Tom Unger, HEALTHeLINK Program Director. “We strive to leverage the best technology to deliver complete and comprehensive patient information, and the interface designed by APP Design will allow us to continue to meet that goal.”

Through the new interface, authorized users of WNYHealtheNet are able to retrieve HEALTHeLINK™ (the Western New York Clinical Information Exchange) patient consent status during eligibility verification, saving time and multiple logins. If desired, the patient can change his or her consent status on the spot by filling in an online form. The interface, using NHIN XDS.b standards, will enable HEALTHeLINK to further integrate administrative and clinical workflows to reduce costs and improve outcomes for WNY patients.

“RHIOnet is designed to provide exceptional flexibility in the connectivity, translation and display of each transaction between disparate information sources,” explained Robert Quinn, Partner of APP Design. “We are excited that WNYHealtheNet gave us the opportunity to use our vast experience in designing, building and integrating healthcare networks and information exchanges to meet their need for a real-time patient consent interface.”

About WNYHealtheNet, LLC
WNYHealtheNet is one of the largest RHIO success stories. Founded in 2002 by the three payers and four provider systems in the Buffalo metro area, WNYHealtheNet now services more than 25,000 users and delivers more than 4.5 million transactions per month. The provider organizations are increasing their revenue by $120,000 to $200,000 per month by having patient information up front, while the payers are saving millions of dollars in provider relations and transaction costs. Based on its successes, WNYHealtheNet is now expanding to add online prescriptions and other clinical information transactions.

APP continues HIE sustainability push at HIMSS 10

posted on 03.08.10 at 10:21 am in: APP Design, HIE Sustainability, RHIOnet - Comments Off

APP Design continued its efforts for Health Information Exchange sustainability at HIMSS 10. “The current model of grant funding and hoping for a future sustainability solution is not viable.” said Robert Quinn, partner at APP Design. “With our RHIOnet infrastructure, Health Information Exchanges can build a portfolio of private-labeled value added services to fund their exchange and eliminate their dependence on grants.”

“There’s no magic bullet. Our solution still requires community participation and effort by the stake holders. But our customers have shown that they can produce a sustainable business model for HIEs based on vale added services backed by RHIOnet.”
