In the recent article, “Using Tablets to Obtain Patient Consent: Pilot Project to Test ‘Meaningful Consent’ for Health Info Exchange” posted in the online publication Healthcare Info Security, Howard Anderson discusses using tablets to obtain patient consent electronically as part of The Office of the National Coordinator’s e-consent pilot project. As the ONC’s chosen vendor for the pilot project, the APP Design team is responsible for creating educational multimedia content, associating consent choice with the HIE, capturing the electronic signature, and providing feedback through a patient survey, all via tablets. The goal of the project is to provide engaging and much needed information to patients so that they may make meaningful consent decisions on the electronic sharing of their personal health information and for this to be done in a efficient and consistent manner. For more information on the E-Consent Pilot Project please read APP Design’s official press release.
