RHIOnet is a secure, Web-based, healthcare information exchange system designed to deliver accurate and timely healthcare data to caregivers distributed across wide geographical areas.

WNYHealtheNet, one of the nation’s most successful RHIOs, delivers over five million healthcare transactions per month to its more than 30,000 providers. A collaboration by the Western New York region’s hospitals and health insurance plans, WNYHealtheNet provides real-time, online services including health plan eligibility and benefit verification, claim status, claim inquiry, referral submission and single sign-on. Prior to WNYHealtheNet’s inception in 2002, physicians and providers were required to contact each entity individually, in disparate ways, for all the services and manage multiple sets of user names and passwords for each entity.

Through the new interface, authorized users of WNYHealtheNet are able to retrieve HEALTHeLINK™ (the Western New York Clinical Information Exchange) patient consent status during eligibility verification, saving time and multiple logins. If desired, the patient can change his or her consent status on the spot by filling in an online form. The interface, using NHIN XDS.b standards, will enable HEALTHeLINK to further integrate administrative and clinical workflows to reduce costs and improve outcomes for WNY patients.

APP Design, a software development firm specializing in the design, development and integration of healthcare systems, today announced its selection to deliver Provider Demographic Update (PDU), a Web-based application designed to expertly manage demographic data and reduce the amount of manual intervention required in a provider portal by both providers and payers.

The PDU will offer a direct method of reviewing and entering demographic data on file with all payers in the region through a provider portal with automated field-level validation along with the ability to attach supporting files. In addition to improving user and payer experience, PDU validates provider updates before submission for correct formatting and provides flexibility by allowing payers to configure field properties to meet their system requirements. For providers, the application offers a simple, accessible interface to view and update demographic information for each payer relationship.

The PDU eliminates the need for the provider office to call or fax demographic data to payers, a typically time-consuming process. Therefore, there is little to no delay in applying specific updates to important data.
